A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER
This year is off to a terrific start! From the Magnum Monday dinner, to Mastermind at One Eight Distilling, to the Urbana dinner, to the Apres Ski Night, to the LA dinner at BOA, to the team building experience at Spy Embassy, and to the dinner this week at Firefly, we are truly living up to our mantra to connect, inspire and achieve. Below are some of my favorite memories so far in 2016.
WELCOME OUR NEWEST MEMBERS
Emily came to Washington, DC, in 2007 for a semester-long internship. She loved the city so much she stayed. Before moving to DC, Emily got her bachelor's degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising and Theatre from Butler University. She also has a master's degree in Communication, Culture and Technology from Georgetown University. Both of her alma maters are basketball legends, and she prides herself on being from Indiana -- the state where basketball was born.
As a communications professional, Emily has worked in the sports and entertainment, collegiate and nonprofit industries. She currently works at the public affairs agency DDC, where she runs strategy on grassroots and advocacy campaigns.
Emily is frequently traveling to see large and rare animals -- including Asian elephants, polar bears and big cats. When she's at home, however, she's often plié-ing at the barre, running on the Potomac, or hitting golf balls on the greens.
Jay is a Cyber Privacy Analyst at Booz Allen Hamilton, where he provides data privacy and cybersecurity consulting services. He assists clients in drafting data management policies, preventing data breaches, and training others on how to comply with federal regulations.
Jay started his post-law school career as a corporate litigation attorney at LeClair Ryan. After switching to data privacy, he eventually joined a smaller company to concentrate on commercial clients before joining Booz Allen in 2015.
Jay graduated from the University of Mary Washington, and received his law degree from William & Mary School of Law, where is still actively involved. Jay served as a Governor’s Fellow for then-Governor Tim Kaine, and as a summer law clerk for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is also a graduate of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at the University of Virginia.
Jay was born in Pennsylvania but grew up all over Northern Virginia. He’s a die-hard action movie fan, and currently lives in Ballston, Arlington Virginia.
Marlene Hall grew up an army brat and has lived all over the world (Asia, Europe and the Middle East) and in Washington, DC. Marlene graduated from the University of Virginia, where she wrote for the Cavalier Daily. At UVA, she was in Air Force ROTC and majored in Foreign Affairs. Commissioned as an Air Force officer, she served 8 years as a personnel officer. After her service, she received her master's in Public Relations from Georgetown, worked as a government contractor and had her own public relations company. She now works as a realtor with Keller Williams and as a rep for Rodan and Fields premium skincare.
In addition, Marlene dabbles in improvisational comedy and has taken classes at the famed iO Theater in Chicago and the DC Improv. She is very active in the DC charity and social scene and contributes her time to veterans' organizations by hosting a monthly fundraiser. She also was a supernumerary in the Washington National Opera's Carmen with opera singer Denyce Graves. She loves the music and theater scene in DC and goes to as many concerts and shows as possible. She is a freelance writer with DC Metro Theater Arts. Her motto is the best way to predict the future is to create it.
